What Goes Around...
Revolving doors — little things add up… According to a 2006 MIT study, revolving doors can reduce the amount of air that needs to be heated or cooled by as much as 800% when compared to the traditional swing door. Can someone improve the original design to help the planet even more? Sure. The design firm Fluxxlab is even creating a revolving door that can put energy back into the grid for use onsite. Neat! So, when given the choice, I hope you chose the revolving door. Pretty please.
Contain Yourself...
Ixnay the plastic/paper doggie bags aye! Take your plastic or glass container from home to your night out on the town and reduce the need for restaurants to order more take home containers. Imagine…the amount of resources and energy we’d save if everyone did that. My current estimate places it at “a lot”.
Wouldn’t You Know...
Going green — not always the way to go! Pressure Treated Wood (a.k.a. chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood) is that green wood that folks sometimes use to make decks, wooden swing sets, picnic tables, etc. Do some states consider this wood a carcinogen due to toxins (namely arsenic) that can harm people and animals, especially when burned? You bet! Also, you may want to read this article if you are considering it for other uses (e.g., using it as a border for your vegetable garden).
